Having addressed food and digestion, sleep and relaxation, and mental and emotional stability, there may more that can be done to fine tune your sense of well being.
If accutane has weakened you, you may need to be careful about not over-exercising. I hurt myself several times in my life by working out too hard. When I was younger, the effects of accutane were less pronounced. However, with age, the symptoms became worse and worse until I became very tired and weak most of the time.
If you are in this condition, the best thing to do is to just take walks until you begin to get stronger. Even with just walks, watch for your limits. Watch for when you begin to push yourself and don’t do it. A 10 minute walk may be all you can handle today. That’s ok.
Earlier we discussed food and digestion and as you begin to improve digestion, physical strength will return.
Recovering from accutane has taken a lifetime and during the process I have tried everything under the sun in an attempt to feel better. Here is a general list of some of the supplements I take and the reasons why. Keep in mind that I am 6 feet, 180lbs and adjust accordingly:
- Vitamin B1: helps with physical energy. I take 400mg once or twice a day.
- Thiamax: this is a version of B1 that penetrates the blood brain barrier. I take 1 capsule on waking. For me, it provides a soothing effect on the nervous system.
- Vitamin D3 + K2: as mentioned in the section above
- Zinc: when combined with D3+K2, this helps strengthen the immune system. I haven’t been sick in years.
Understanding High Sensitivity
To share one final piece of my journey, I recently discovered that I have the genetic trait of high sensitivity. If you have suffered negative side effects from accutane, being highly sensitive is something worth knowing about. Dr. Elaine Aaron is the leader in this field, and you can take a quiz here on her website.
That’s a whole journey in and of itself. According to Dr. Aaron, 20% of the population has the trait of high sensitivity so it may or may not apply to you.
